Abstract
The authors examined by histologic and histochemical methods mast-cells in the mucous membrane of the nose (in the normal membrane, in patients suffering with vasomotor rhinitis, and in nasal polyps) as well as in the membrane of paranasal sinuses (in normal and chronic inflammations), and in adenoids and chronic tonsillitis. The relation of mast cells to other cells of the inflammatory infiltration was ascertained. Special attention was paid to the relation of mast-cells to eosinophils. A reciprocity of mast cells and eosinophils was ascertained. The authors discuss the importance of mast cells and their function in allergic reaction. Keywords
