LOWERED SERUM LIPID LEVELS IN THE ECK FISTULA DOG

Abstract
Repeated detns. of serum fatty acids and cholesterol in Eck fistula dogs revealed values significantly below those for normal animals, the decrease roughly paralleling the onset of cachexia. Fat tolerance tests were normal in the 1st wks. after operation but later the blood lipids failed to rise after oral adm. of fat. Fecal fat loss was not increased. The evidence suggests failure of fat formation by the liver from non-lipid pre-cursors .
