Abstract
The absorption spectra of vit. A and of retinenei in concentrated sulfuric, phosphoric and hydrochloric acids was studied. Sharp absorption bands characteristic of unstable ionized molecules were obtained. The results show that vit. A and retinene1 can give rise in vitro to materials simulating the photopic modulators of Granit. The hypothesis that the system vit. A-retinene1 is important in photopic as well as scotopic vision is strength-ened.
