Abstract
The common qualities of the structure and function of the neocortex are described and represented as a basis of a cooperative linked system. Higher brain functions are traced back to a cooperation of subsystems specific for each function. The extensiveness of the cooperation depends on the ends and utilizes serial and parallel processing principles. Keywords
