Abstract
A series of beta-alkyl carboxylic acids was fed to dogs and the amts. excreted in the urine examined. n-Adipic and its beta-methyl, -ethyl and -propyl derivatives were metabolized in decreasing order, but beta-butyl- and beta-hexyl-adipic acids, more completely. beta-D ecyladipic acid was 100% utilized and no breakdown products could be found in the urine. Cyclohexanol and 1,-3-dimethylcyclohexene-5 in massive doses did not cause any excretion of adipic acid in the urine.
