Emission Line in CdS as a Phonon Spectrometer

Abstract
We demonstrate the use of the luminescence feature in the near-bandgap luminescence spectrum of CdS as a high-resolution phonon spectrometer by measurement of the phonon distribution resulting from a photoexcited heat pulse generated in a gold film evaporated on the crystal.
