An In Vitro Assay for Encephalitogenic Components of Central Nervous Tissue

Abstract
It has been demonstrated that an encephalitogenic purified basic protein fraction from bovine spinal cord inhibited the migration in tissue culture of peritoneal exudate cells from sensitized guinea pigs and rats. A technique based on this observation has been developed for an assay of such encephalitogenic fractions. Where practical considerations required pooling, cells pooled from imbred animals were superior because cells pooled from random-bred animals appeared to give variable mutual inhibition.
