Leather rot of strawberry, caused by the fungus Phytophthora cactorum, was observed throughout Ohio [USA] during 1981. In six 10-20-acre planting surveyed, 20-30% of the crop was lost to leather rot. In 7 plantings surveyed during 1982, losses due to leather rot ranged 5-30%.
