This chapter proposes an approach which can be used to contrast modern and traditional worldviews from a holistic perspective. It distinguishes between impersonal and personal maps or guide to the universe and argues that all cultures differ in terms of the balance which keeps changing because of the tension between the two. It suggests that the emphasis on the personal in traditional cultures is evidence of the need for flexibility, spontaneity, openness to balance the rigidity, and closedness of impersonal relations.
