Abstract
A thermodynamic model is proposed to describe the above-threshold ionisation process. The photoelectron energy spectrum is calculated by means of the canonical ensemble. The ensemble consists of a system of atoms which is in equilibrium with a mean energy E. The result gives a new physical picture of the additional photon absorption process. Keywords
