SOME EFFECTS OF EARLY CASTRATION ON THE GROWTH OF THE MALE RAT

Abstract
Data are given showing that the length and weight curves of the normal and castrated rat are unlike. After 100 days the normal rat becomes increasingly heavier and longer than his castrated littermate brother. In 2 groups followed for 350 days and 450 days the operated animals showed an average difference of [long dash]25.8% and [long dash]20.7% in weight and the 2nd group a [long dash]8% difference in body length. Body length not total length is the significant measurement. Measurements of all animals were made under deep anaesthesia every 10 days.
