EFFECT OF SODIUM SALICYLATE UPON THE URIC ACID CLEARANCE OF THE DALMATIAN DOG

Abstract
Sodium salicylate was given by intraven. infusion to both Dalmatian and non-Dalmatian dogs. Neither the uric acid or creatinine clearance was changed in the Dalmatian dogs after the administration of salicylate, whereas the avg. uric acid clearance of 6 non-Dalmatian dogs increased from 28.7 ml. per min. to 39.6 ml. per min., after salicylate with no concomitant change in the creatinine clearance. These results confirmed the previous studies of the authors concerning the uric acid clearance of the Dalmatian dog which indicated that in this breed of dog, uric acid was filtered via the glomerulus without subsequent tubular reabsorption.
