Abstract
A coccoid bacterium actively destroying various Group A substances, from human A saliva, horse saliva, pig pepsin and gastric mucin, was isolated from leaf mold. It fails to grow on most common media but can be cultivated on A substance or peptones rich in the latter. Two types of media were developed. A number of sugars are utilized without frank production of acid or gas. The organism destroys serological activity of 2% solutions of the A preparations following which only traces of substances of polysaccharide nature can be recovered. No exoenzyme was demonstrated.
