Abstract
1. The resistance of rats to bacterial intoxication is greatly decreased after double adrenalectomy. 2. This decreased resistance is dependent upon a functional insufficiency of the adrenal cortex. 3. A dose of killed streptococci or staphylococci can be obtained that is invariably fatal to adrenalectomized rats, before hypertrophy of cortical accessories, but never kills control rats. Keywords
