A STUDY OF HYALURONIDASE-EFFECTS ON THE FOLLICLE CELLS OF OVULATED RAT OVA1

Abstract
Solns. of hyaluronidase prepared from mammalian testis and containing 1 mg. in 2.5-5 ml. of Ringer''s or Locke''s soln. were used. The solns. were capable of dispersing the follicle cells of recently ovulated rat ova. Immune sera against hyaluronidase solns. prepared from bull testis, were produced by injecting rats on alternate days for 2 mos. with 2 ml. of the bull testis extract. The ova of the immunized rats were dispersed as easily as the normal ova by hyaluronidase. Normal undiluted rat serum inhibited the dispersing action of the hyaluronidase, but sufficiently diluted serum did not. The immune serum in the same dilutions inhibited the enzyme action in vitro. The uterine fluid of an immunized rat inhibited the enzyme action in one expt.
