Raman and Rayleigh Scattering of Lyman by Molecular Hydrogen

Abstract
A calculation of the cross sections for the Raman and Rayleigh scattering of Lyman α by molecular hydrogen is described. For Raman scattering with a unit change in vibrational quantum number v , the cross section is 1 × 10 −25 ( v + 1) cm 2 and for Rayleigh scattering it is 2 × 10 −24 cm 2 .
