The Use of Radioiodinated Albumin in Metabolic Studies. The Effects of the Level of Dietary Protein and l-Triiodothyronine on the Catabolism of Radioiodinated Human Serum Albumin1

Abstract
Concentration of urinary radio-activity was observed for periods up to 35 days after single injections of labeled albumin in control and experimental animals. Very high protein intakes (3 g protein per kg body weight) accelerated the catabolism of serum albumin significantly over the values observed when the same subjects received isocaloric diets lower in protein (0.5 g). Triiodothyronine accelerated the catabolism and produced a simultaneously a negative N balance. The administration of Lugol''s solution does not affect the determination of the catabolism of albumin with radioiodinated albumin.
