Coexisting Primary Hyperparathyroidism and Cushing's Syndrome

Abstract
Two documented cases of the simultaneous occurrence of primary hyperparathyroidism and Cushing's syndrome with operative treatment of both conditions are presented in some detail. Interest in these patients lies 1) in the rarity of multiple endocrine hyperfunctioning states, 2) in the fact that these 2 patients represent the only known instances of the simultaneous occurrence of these 2 rare diseases in which the diagnoses were proved prior to death, 3) in the puzzling diagnostic problems created by the combination of these 2 diseases with some clinical features in common, 4) in the problems of management presented by this unusual combination of diseases, and 5) in the clinical and laboratory evidence which indicates that endogenous adrenocortical hormone and endogenous parathyroid hormone have physiologic effects independent of one another.
