WOUNDING AND SUGAR TRANSLOCATION

Abstract
Tomato plants were placed in darkness to deplete them of sugar. Feeding them sucrose through leaves increased the internal sugar conc. rate of bleeding and rate of stem elongation. Cutting or pinching leaves off close to the path of sugar transloca tion decreased the effectiveness of the sugar application;. This is interpreted as a decrease in the amt. of sugar translocated due to the wound.
