Abstract
The interaction between helium metastable atoms and a solid surface has been experimentally studied in order to obtain a better understanding of the de-excitation mechanisms. The stage of ionization is indicated by the He+ ions by direct measurement. Thus the validity of one of the mechanisms theoretically discussed by Hagstrum is corroborated.Keywords
