ANTIMITOTIC SUBSTANCES FROM OVARIES

Abstract
Additional evidence is presented to show that the antimitotic substance previously found to be present in starfish ovaries is a heparin-like substance. Some of this evidence comes from chromatographic studies; also from studies of the absorption spectrum of the extract. Moreover the potency of the extract disappears after treatment with periodate. Ovaries of various fishes also contain antimitotic substances, and these too are believed to be heparin-like.
