Abstract
A study of the structure of jogs on superdislocations in alloys with long-range order leads to a theory explaining the increase in the rate of work-hardening which takes place when an alloy is ordered. The theory predicts an increase in strength largely independent of domain size, in contrast to previous theories and in agreement with experiment. The theory does not, however, give any insight into the change in slip structure which accompanies ordering. A tentative comparison with observations on the stress-strain curves of ordered alloys shows that the proposed mechanism can account for a large part of the strengthening. Keywords
