The Relationship between Bilirubin Concentration and the Level of Non-esterified Fatty Acids in the Blood of Newborn Infants

Abstract
In 2 groups of newborn infants the level of blood NEFA was changed experimentally[long dash]raised by giving fat orally or lowered by giving glucose intravenously. Changes in the concentration of NEFA in the blood were associated with reciprocal changes in serum total bilirubin levels. Changes in total bilirubin levels were highly significant and in some cases exceeded 100% of original values. A short discussion of the mechanism of these observations and their clinical importance is given.
