Abstract
In this paper we present an extension of the work of Maradudin (1958) designed to allow for general relaxations of the lattice rows about the cores of 〈111〉 and 〈110〉 dislocations in b.c.c. and f.c.c. metals respectively, assuming no dissociation of either core. Moderately long-range forces (up to fifth neighbours) are included, and we determine the lattice configuration within the harmonic approximation. Thus our results are directly comparable with those of linear elasticity. However, since we treat the lattice as a regular array of discrete atoms throughout, our results should be trustworthy everywhere except in the immediate region of the core. Keywords
