Abstract
The mechanical laws of impact lead to the conclusion that, in any transfer of kinetic energy into quantized energy (excitation, dissociation), the ``excitation function'' should, at the threshold, start from zero and increase with increasing kinetic energy. This shape of the function is likely to cause a systematic error in the measurement of critical energies with certain non‐equilibrium methods. Keywords
