Abstract
The polarization dependence of the vibrational hyper-Raman effect is analysed using group theoretic techniques. This allows the unambiguous separation of the different terms contributing to the intensity. Selection rules for systems with electronic degeneracies are given for orientationally averaged scatterers. Keywords
