Abstract
Absorption characteristics for LiF, BaF2, CsI, KCl, KRS‐6, and SiO2 have been measured by laser calorimetry in order to estimate the transparency limit. Weak absorption tails, which differ from the Urbach tail, were observed to follow an exponential law. It is found that the weak absorption tail indicates the transparency limits for these materials. Keywords
