Abstract
The parents of students who had recently graduated from schools catering for adolescents with a moderate and/or severe intellectual disability were interviewed to determine their perspectives of the post-school adjustment of their son or daughter. The results indicated that virtually all parents continued to play a significant role in maintaining the welfare of their child, that the present vocational situation for these ex-students varied widely, and that many families looked to the future with some uncertainty. The implications of these results, with regard to community service provision, are discussed.
