Acute Renal Insufficiency after Ingestion of a Gall-Bladder Dye

Abstract

IN 1959 Rene and Mellinkoff¹ reported 2 cases of A renal insufficiency that followed the oral administration of double doses of iopanoic acid.§ To our knowledge, no similar cases have been reported, which emphasizes the rarity of renal complications after the ingestion of cholecystographic mediums. The purpose of this paper is to report a case of acute renal insufficiency subsequent to the administration of a double dose of bunamiodyl.¶ Bunamiodyl, 3-(3-butyrylamino-2,4,6-tri-iodophenyl) -2-ethyl sodium acrylate, is the newest of the gall-bladder dyes and, according to available reports,^{2 , 3} is stated to be more effective than the older mediums in that better visualization . . .
