SUCCINIC DEHYDROGENASE AND ANAEROBIC GLYCOLYSIS IN LIVERS OF DIABETIC RATS1

Abstract
In diabetic lactating rats the succinic dehydrogenase activity of the liver increases as much as 100% over the activity of livers of normal lactating rats. Smaller increases (up to 31%) occur in anaerobic glycolysis of diabetic rat livers, but not in diabetic rat brain, as compared with normal rat liver and brain. The increases in the activity of succinic dehydrogenase and of the glycolytic enzymes are discussed in relation to enzymatic adaptation mechanisms.
