Chromosome Patterns in Irradiated and Nonirradiated Patients with Rheumatoid Spondylitis

Abstract
Chromosome morphology was studied in 12 males with classical ankylosing spondylitis and 3 females with peripheral joint disease as well as sacroiliac involvement. The modal number of chromosomes in both groups was the normal 46. When 6 randomly selected irradiated spondylitics were compared with a similar number of nonirradiated spondylitics, no significant differences in the number or type of chromosomal aberrations were found. The irradiated subjects showed no alterations in their chromosome morphology indicative of leukemia.
