Spermin is a saturated aliphatic compound with the empirical formula C10H26N4. Since most of the aliphatic diamines of the formula C4H12N2 can be synthetized, the authors attempted to synthetize spermin. The formula of spermin accepted as determined from pure preparations and from its reaction with copper oxide is NH2CH2CH2CH2CH2NH CH2CH2CH2NH CH2CH2CH2NH2. Properties of the base C7H16N2, from which spermin is derived, are given. Chemical methods of purification and synthesis are given in detail.
