The incidence of brain abscess in autopsied cases with various congenital cardiac defects was studied. In instances where a right to left shunt would be expected during life,brain abscess formation was a common cause of death. Cases with subacute bacterial endocarditis were not included in this study. The role of the filtering capacity of the pulmonary capillaries was discussed.
