Abstract
The possibility is examined that Brown's paradox results from the assumption that the shape of the crystal considered is ellipsoidal. It is argued that the large local demagnetizing fields developed near sharp corners of a uniformly magnetized crystal cause the appearance of closure domains, which serve as nuclei of reverse magnetization, thus lowering the coercive force. A tentative development of these domains upon the application of a reverse field is given. Keywords
