Abstract
A method is described for determining carbon by combustion at high temperature. Samples are transferred to the furnace without contamination thus allowing a sensitivity of 0.01 µg C. The precision is good (C.V. 0.5% at 1 µg of C level) and 1–3 samples can be analyzed in 1 min. No prior treatment of samples is necessary for determining total carbon. The method is suitable for routine analysis of carbon in single particles, homogenates, suspensions, and solutions.
