Abstract
To the Editor: Captopril1 , 2 causes long-term inhibition of angiotensin II formation, and studies have shown that it is effective in lowering blood pressure.3 4 5 At present there is no direct method to measure plasma levels of captopril, but it is possible to measure the activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme with substrate assay techniques.6 7 8 The degree to which the activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme is inhibited by captopril may provide an indirect way to assess the activity of the drug and patient compliance; however, variations in the degree of inhibition have been found.3 Therefore, when studying normal volunteers who had taken up to 100 . . .
