The Effect of Tissue Ageing on Intestinal Uptake of Amino-Acids in Vitro

Abstract
The gradual loss of viability of intestinal tissue was demonstrated in the course of various ageing procedures. It was found to be inadvisable to incubate a fragment of tissue for more than 3 hrs, or to keep it in vitro for more than 3 hrs before use. By measuring the changes in the various components of entry into intestinal tissue during the course of ageing, a test for the functional viability of intestinal tissue based on the uptake of amino-acid in the absence and presence of 2:4-dinitrophenol was validated.
