Malignant Zollinger-Ellison syndrome in a Bantu woman with a prolonged remission after gastric radiotherapy

Abstract
Emergency gastrectomy was per-formed for uncontrollable hemorrhage. Massive X-ray therapy resulted in remission persisting for 21 months thus far, with a virtually histamine-fast achlorhydria. The value of the augmented histamine test for diagnosis is stressed, and possible diagnostic value of poor reduction of the marked basal hypersecretion in this patient by anti-cholinergics is discussed. A serum concentration induced an acid secretory response in Heidenhain-pouch dog. Histologic study of a biopsy taken several months after radiotherapy is noted.
