Abstract
A calculation is made of the force on a cylindrical domain in the presence of a current‐carrying magnetoresistive overlay. The force results from the perturbation produced by the field of the domain on the current in the overlay. When the force exceeds the coercive force, the domain should propagate. For a Permalloy overlay a rough estimate of the magnitude of the effective magnetic field gives a value of 0.01 Oe for a current of 10 A/cm width in the overlay. Keywords
