Abstract
Proteins and glycoproteins of serum were studied after hypophysectomy in the rat. The total serum protein did not show great variations, but the electrophoretic analyses showed a decrease in albumin, and an increase in globulin. The latter was due to an increase in [alpha] 1- and [alpha] 2 globulin immediately after the removal of the gland, and to an increase in gamma-globulin at the end of the experiment. The serum protein-bound hexose, hexosamine and sialic acid increased. Electrophoresis showed an increase in the carbohydrate content of each fraction, especially the [beta]-globulin fraction.
