Abstract
The absorption length of cosmic-ray showers has been measured for vertical sea-level shower sizes approximately 106 particles. The value of 97+or-2 g cm-2 obtained for this parameter is consistent with results from other workers, but is considerably more precise. This result sets stringent limits on models of shower development.Keywords
