ROENTGEN CHANGES OBSERVED IN GENERALIZED SCLERODERMA

Abstract

IN RECENT years considerable interest has been shown by many authors in the morphological changes in generalized scleroderma. Greater familiarity with the various pathological alterations has been achieved because of close observation and study of the necropsy material in postmortem examinations. Pugh,¹in 1948, gave a comprehensive review of the literature on the subject, with discussion of many of the pathological changes seen in the various body systems. It is our objective to present a review of the findings seen in 63 cases of scleroderma observed in Duke Hospital during the past 20 years, with particular emphasis on the roentgen changes. Table 1 shows the sex, race, and age incidence of this group of patients. In this series females outnumber males slightly more than 2:1. The majority of cases were in the 31 to 50 year age group (67%). A review was made of the incidence and type of
