Abstract
Brillouin scattering measurements on unsupported Al films have been performed on films with thicknesses down to ∼23 nm. Both the line positions and relative intensities of the Lamb modes observed in the experimental spectra are well accounted for by theory with no adjustable parameters. Fits to the experimental dispersion curves in unsupported films are found to give somewhat more reliable values for elastic constants than fits to results on supported films. Keywords
