Abstract
The specific oxidation of the primary alcohol group in glycosides with gaseous O2 in the presence of a platinum catalyst was extended to the synthesis of aryl glycopyranosi-duronic acids, and a number of derivatives of glucuronic acid and galacturonic acid were thus prepared, including phenyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-[alpha]- and [beta]-D-glucopyranosiduronic acids. Decomposition of the latter compounds with acid was studied. The preparation of borneol [alpha]-D-glucopyranosiduronic acid is described. Keywords
