Abstract
The problem of the impulsive response of a beam in the elastic and plastic regions is discussed. The beam in the plastic region is simulated by yield hinges where the moment reaches a constant yield value. Transition from the elastic to the plastic beam, including the satisfaction of the initial conditions imposed on the plastic beam, is accomplished automatically in terms of the normal mode solution of each. A practical computing scheme making use of the electronic analog computer is described. Some elastic-plastic solutions obtained by the computer are presented.
