Abstract
Measurements are reported of the sublimation rate of cobalt in the vicinity of its Curie temperature ( K) which show a relatively large change (∼0.8 eV/atom) in the apparent activation energy for sublimation near . The results can be accounted for in terms of a simple model that incorporates into the sublimation process the temperature dependence of the magnetic contribution to the binding energy of a cobalt surface atom.
