Abstract
A release of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in response to inhibitory nerve stimulation occurs at 3 different neuromuscular junctions of the lobster. The amounts of GABA released depend on frequency of stimulation and duration of the stimulation period. The average, amount of GABA recovered/stimulus ranges from 1 to 4 x 10-14 moles. GABA is not released by stimulation of excitatory nerves, or in response to inhibitory nerve stimulation when neuromuscular transmission is blocked by exposing the tissue to a low-calcium medium. Keywords
