Abstract
Summary Hemadsorption in rhesus monkey kidney tissue culture has been shown to occur by two different mechanisms, a specific reaction of red blood cells with viral receptors and a non-specific, non-viral, reaction of partially denatured or altered red blood cells with specialized kidney cells. Non-specific tissue hemadsorption (THAd) was found not to be limited to rhesus kidney tissue culture but also occurred in kidney tissue strains and lines derived from other animal species. The finding that some viruses inhibit THAd suggests the possible use of this phenomenon as a tool in diagnostic virology. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
