Arbitrary pole placement using linear output feedback compensation

Abstract
A new method of assigning min (n,p + m − l) closed-loop poles using linear output feedback is presented. Specifically, parametric expressions of the desired matrix H are derived using either the differential operator or the transfer matrix representation, which not only allow the direct assignment of min (n,p + m − 1) (or more) closed-loop poles, but also make possible the ‘ control ’ of the remaining, non-assignable poles. Finally, as a consequence of the above, an interesting generalization of a well-known scalar result is presented, which constitutes a direct method of assigning min (m,p) closed-loop poles.
