Abstract
Details are given of the construction of a Rankine magnetic balance which realizes the full theoretical sensitivity of this type of instrument. The volume magnetic susceptibilities of stated mixtures of light and heavy water relative to that of ordinary water are reported, and from these data the relative mass susceptibilities of HDO and D2O are deduced. The mass susceptibility of H2O is assumed to be -0.7200 × 106, in terms of which that of HDO is -0.6807 × 106 and of D2O is -0.6466 × 106.
